InnerSelf's Weekend Inspiration

February 14-15-16, 2025

This is Marie T. Russell, publisher of InnerSelf.com wishing you a day of giving affection without expecting rewards (today and every day). Love is not a game where one keeps score. It is more like a mother giving and giving more and more to her newborn child. She gives of herself without expecting a reward in return. She gives because she loves. Is this how we love or are we keeping score of whose turn it is to be "loving" and "giving"?

The focus for today is:

I give love and affection,
without expecting a reward.

Today's message is inspired by an article written by Beth McDaniel:

One of the most revealing questions you can ask yourself is this: Do you love this person, or do you love the way they make you feel?

Infatuation tends to be self-focused—it’s about how the other person makes you feel when they look at you a certain way, when they send a message, when they pull you into their world. It’s about the rush, the fantasy, the excitement.

Love, however, is other-focused. It’s about genuinely caring for the person beyond what they provide for you emotionally. Love isn’t just about receiving affection; it’s about giving it, even in difficult moments, without expecting an immediate reward.
